Beauty NZ's Inspiring Women
Annemarie Mason, The Heart Behind Kiara Cosmetics
When Annemarie Mason founded Kiara Cosmetics in 2017, she was 28 years old, working from the spare room of her rental home. She had no investors and not even a car of her own; just determination, belief, and a borrowed car from her parents to get around and meet customers in those early days.
What she did have and what remains at the core of her business is conviction: in herself, in the brands she represented, and in the idea that beauty could be a force for good.
Eight years later, that belief has evolved into one of New Zealand's most respected beauty distribution businesses. As the exclusive New Zealand partner for RevitaLash Cosmetics and Déesse PRO, Kiara Cosmetics has built a reputation for combining professionalism with purpose, leading the industry through authenticity, education, and heart.
FROM LOST TO FOUND
Raised on Aucklands North Shore by hardworking parents, Annemarie admits she didn't have a clear plan when she left school. "I was a good student, but I never really knew what I wanted to do," she recalls. After a short stint at Inland Revenue, she found herself modelling for a doctor's training session on IPL, an experience that unexpectedly changed everything.
"I was self-conscious about my skin, growing up with cystic acne, scarring, and freckles. As I lay on the bed listening to the trainer explain all the things this IPL machine could do, I was fascinated," she says.
The rep encouraged her to study beauty therapy, and before long Annemarie was immersed in anatomy, skin function, and the power of helping people feel confident in their own skin.
After working her way from junior therapist to salon manager, she encountered RevitaLash Cosmetics at a beauty expo in 2011.
"I've always had really short lashes, so yes I was amazed at what this product claimed to do. But What truly stayed with me was the story behind the brand. I remember noticing the pink ribbon on the box and learning that RevitaLash was created out of love, from a husband supporting his wife through cancer. That sense of purpose and meaning in beauty resonated with me deeply, even back then."
